I’m all packed up and I’m ready to ride, Nowhere to go, nothing in mind, But I’ve been spending all of my time, Thinking ‘bout the open road. I don’t look back ‘till I’ve crossed the border, Then I slow down, onto the shoulder, Map says I’m a short drive from nowhere, So that’s where I’m gonna go. There’s a dirt road waiting, A sunset fading, Down by the river there’s a band that’s playing, Playing something slow. There’s a time for staying And a time for straying From the path that we have taken, So go find your dirt road- waiting. You know those cities just ain’t for me. They’re too much like galleries. Everybody’s looking, but nobody sees With too much on the wall. I want real and I want true, Dirt on my hands, mud on my shoes. Gonna get out of town, take in the view, And listen when freedom calls. There’s a dirt road waiting, A sunset fading, And down by the river there’s a band that’s playing, Playing something slow. There’s a time for staying And a time for straying From the path that we have taken, So go find your dirt road- waiting. I’m gonna find some lost adventure, Drive like it’s now or never, Before I change my mind. I don’t know when I’ll find it, It’s all in the timing. All I’ve gotta do is ride. There’s a dirt road waiting, A sunset fading, And down by the river there’s a band that’s playing, Playing something slow. There’s a time for staying And a time for straying From the path that we have taken, It’s in your control. There’s a dirt road waiting, A sunset fading, And down by the river there’s a band that’s playing, Playing something slow. There’s a time for staying And a time for straying From the path that we have taken, So go find your dirt road, Go find your dirt road- waiting.

I shouldn’t be here standing at your doorstep, But you called me and you always get your way. When I’m lonely, I can’t quite remember Why I told myself that I should stay away. Hold on, baby don’t move too fast. Take it easy, before we can’t take this back. You’re like scotch and soda, Like rum and Coca-Cola. One, two, three, four, just keep pouring, It can’t hurt you ‘till the morning. Like Jack and ginger, Like kisses when they linger. I could try to stay away, But you know it don’t work that way. All you give me is a headache and a heartache, But tell me now who am I to blame? My solution is just another problem, When a little more seems like the only way. I know you’re no good for me, You know I don’t care. I don’t have no strength to leave, And you just don’t fight fair. You’re like scotch and soda, Like rum and Coca-Cola. One, two, three, four, just keep pouring, It can’t hurt you ‘till the morning. Like Jack and ginger, Like kisses when they linger. I could try to stay away, But you know it don’t work that way. With scotch and soda, With rum and Coca-Cola. One, two, three, four, just keep pouring, It can’t hurt you ‘till the morning. With Jack and ginger, With kisses when they linger. I could try to stay away, But you know it don’t work that way.

I got my big city dreams, you got your small town pride, But at the end of it all we’re gonna share our lives. The only kind of love that we have ever known Can weather any storm, so we send it through the phone. You call me up just to say hello. There ain’t nothing new and you already know. You don’t say much but it’s more than enough, When you call me up just to say hello. I’m finding myself like I’ve always been told: Before you walk together, you’ve gotta stand on your own. We’re putting in the work. It’s putting up a fight. We keep telling ourselves what we’re doing is right. You call me up just to say hello. There ain’t nothing new and you already know. You don’t say much but it’s more than enough, When you call me up just to say hello. I could have stayed. I would have for you, but you’d never ask me to. You could have come. You would have for me, but this way we don’t have to choose, Between my big city dreams, and your small town pride, And at the end of it all we gonna share our lives. You call me up just to say hello. There ain’t nothing new and you already know. You don’t say much but it’s more than enough, When you call me up just to say hello. You don’t say much but you’re sending all your love, When you call me up just to say hello.

Kaydence 02:31
I’d swear there’s sugar in the air tonight, The moon is full and all the stars are bright. But if everything were perfect you’d be by my side, And so I paint you here with my mind. Kaydence don’t you know How I’ve been missing you, Missing you. Kaydence please forgive me, I’ve become a gypsy, Passing through. The world flies by, the city moves so fast. There’s so much that I’m missing, so much I can’t get back, Like the time I spent away from you chasing all my dreams, When they’ve always been right in front of me. Kaydence don’t you know How I’ve been missing you, Missing you. Kaydence please forgive me, I’ve become a gypsy, Just passing through. I see my coat, I see the door, The car keys that I’m reaching for. I know the way, I know your street, A while ago it was home to me. Kaydence don’t you know How I’ve been missing you, Missing you. Kaydence please forgive me, I’ve become a gypsy, Passing through. I'd swear there's sugar in the air tonight.

Yours 03:57
Footsteps coming back to bed, Two lips pressed against my head, Arms around me keep me safe and warm. Almost like they were yours. Tangled hair and wrinkled sheets, A kiss good morning, half asleep, Clothes are lying lonely on the floor. Almost like they were yours. Back when we could outrun time, Love was free and love was blind. Bravery was all you needed to get by, When I was yours and you were mine. Fingers reaching for my hand, Promises and long-term plans, Feels a little like it did before. Almost like they were yours. Back when we could outrun time, Love was free and love was blind. Bravery was all you needed to get by, When I was yours and you were mine. Sometimes I wonder if you ever think of me In the moments just before you wake or as you fall asleep. Even though I’m far away and loving someone new, There are days I think about the ones I spent with you. Back when you were by my side, With nothing else to make us feel alive. Bravery was all you needed to get by, And we sure got by. Back when we could outrun time, Love was free and love was blind. Bravery was all you needed to get by, When I was yours and you were mine. When I was yours and you were mine.

about

At only twenty-two years of age, the Triana Presley has already ignited the Bay Area music scene and, receiving national airplay, winning local and international songwriting awards, and garnering professional acclaim- all before the release of her debut EP. With Timorous or Bold comes a collection of folk/pop tunes, bursting with catchy melodies, sweet vocals, and lively arrangements. While Presley frequents the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, CA, she is currently booking performances throughout the East Bay.

Presley seemed to be testing the waters earlier this year with the release of two singles, “Dirt Road Waiting” and “Kaydence,” both receiving a wealth of praise from music bloggers to competition judges. “Dirt Road Waiting” won first place for Best Lyric of the Year in a contest held by West Coast Songwriters, a songwriting development non-profit best known for sparking the careers of pop singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles among others. An anthem for road-trippers and wanderlusts, “Dirt Road Waiting” is an upbeat, catchy tune about leaving the confinement of the city and answering to the calling of the open road. Earlier this year, it was named a finalist in the international Great American Song Contest in the country category, selected from over 1700 other songs.

One of the contest judges noted, “there’s no doubt that [Presley has] songwriting talent.” “[‘Dirt Road Waiting’] grabbed me right from the start” said the judge, “the music and lyric epitomizes [a] laid-back, adventurous nature-loving attitude!”

Presley’s five-track EP is modern and striking enough to be played on mainstream radio, but shines with personality, incorporating folk, blues, and Americana influences. The first two tracks, “Dirt Road Waiting” and “Scotch & Soda,” are upbeat, lively, and very nearly country. Creating a sort of west-coast-twang, the sweet rhythm guitars, fiddle, and foot-stomping rhythm set the tone early on. The second two tracks, “Just to Say Hello” and “Kaydence,” slow down the pace. It is here that Presley truly shines as both a songwriter and as a vocalist, weaving together moving melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Her line, “between my big-city dreams/ and your small-town pride,” a lyric from “Just to Say Hello,” won third place for Best Line of the Year in a annual lyric contest.

While Presley is proud of the whole EP, a project that she began as a high school student, she’ll tell you her favorite song is the very last one, titled “Yours.” “If you make it all the way to the end, you get to hear my favorite song,” she says. “‘Yours” is the most recent song I’ve written, so I think it’s the most representative of where I am now as a writer.”

Seeming to walk the fine line between a commercial pop and folk/Americana, Presley’s tracks feature strong hooks, and showcase thoughtful, elegant lyrics. Her songs “Scotch & Soda” and “Kaydence” have been described as mainstream leaning, yet Presley’s style is decidedly earthy.

Similarly, the EP’s evocative title, Timorous or Bold, deviates from the hook-driven, simple tracks it features. “It’s from one of my favorite lines of poetry,” Presley explains. “I really wanted to capture what each song is about, and also express the significance of this project to me, and how it feels to share my music.” Written on the back of her EP is the full stanza:

The way we are living,
timorous or bold,
will have been our life.
- Seamus Heaney, “Elegy” for Robert Lowell
